XGL effect is working on HP Compaq Machine.
Just some ATI driver need to be installed.
Just follow the instructions and get the effect on your desktop

01) Install SLED10
02) Copy the ati driver from \\blr-image.blr.novell.com\data1\ati03) switch to run level 3 by executing ‘init 3’
04) run the installer by executing ‘sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.25.18-x86.run’ from a command shell and follow the defaults
05) run ‘sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx’. Select Activate 3D acceleration( if not enabled). The sax2 utility might show 3D disabled when you test the configuration. You can ignore it and continue and save the configuration.
06) Select “change Configuration” . The sax2 utility would have detected your monitor make and model properly. Change the monitor model to LCD with resolution as 1280×1024@60 hz.
07) Save the configuration and exit
08) Switch to runlevel 5 and login to the GUI.
09) From a command shell, execute ‘glxgears’ and make sure that the Frame Per Second(FPS) is more than 500.
10) Select Desktop effects from the Control Center.
11) Click on “Enable Desktop Effects” to enable XGL. You will be prompted to log out of the workstation. Log out and log in. You should be having a desktop with working XGL now.

emacs-ruby mode

Filed under: General — skalyanasundaram @ 4:20 pm
oh! after a long time i am back again. Nothing specific .
Just too lazy to write.
I have got a el file for ruby-mode for emacs.
Rubypanther (really dont know his original name) gave me this el file which works very fine with emacs
if you need get that here

and add the following lines in your .emacs file

  (autoload 'ruby-mode "ruby-mode"
"Mode for editing ruby source files" t)
(setq auto-mode-alist
    (append '(("\\.rb$" . ruby-mode)) auto-mode-alist))
(setq interpreter-mode-alist (append '(("ruby" . ruby-mode))

syntax high lighting and others like automatic indentation looks fine
